The first complete nacelle built by Siemens for the 336MW Galloper offshore wind farm underwent its ‘first-click’ test in Esbjerg on Tuesday, 28 March, according to Galloper Wind Farm Limited (GWFL).
”The turbine ‘click’ is the bolting together of the nacelle, generator and hub plus completion of minor works and rotational and basic system testing of the whole assembly. Essentially, it’s the end of manufacturing and the nacelle, generator and hub are ready for installation,” a spokesperson for GWFL told Offshore WIND.
The ‘click’ of the first nacelle coincided with the news that GeoSea installed all 56 foundations at the Galloper site some 30 kilometers off the Suffolk coast two months ahead of schedule.
Next up is the installation of the 56 Siemens 6MW turbines, the developer said. Siemens selected Peel Ports Great Yarmouth as the assembly location and installation base for the Galloper project.
Components such as nacelles, blades, towers and electrical modules will arrive at Great Yarmouth via the port, where they will be pre-assembled quayside before going offshore.
The wind farm is scheduled for commissioning in the spring of 2018.
Construction of the GBP 1.5 billion Galloper is being led by innogy SE on behalf of the project partners, the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB), Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital.
