Jan De Nul’s heavy-lift jack up vessel Vole au vent will now be mobilised for work on the Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm in Finland, after completing turbine installation at the Nobelwind wind farm off the coast of Belgium.

The vessel installed the last of the total 50 MHI Vestas V112-3.3MW wind turbines on 3 April. Prior to erecting the turbines, Jan De Nul installed the foundations at the Belgian offshore wind farm.

According to the company’s social media pages, Vole au vent will now mobilise for offshore wind works on a 40MW offshore wind farm in Finland, for which Jan De Nul is the main marine construction contractor .

The offshore construction of the Tahkoluoto wind farm off Pori – the world’s first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions – began last spring, with Jan De Nul preparing the seabed for the installation of the the wind farm’s ten foundations and subsea cables. With the start of autumn storms and the subsequent winter period, the works ceased and have been announced to resume this month.

Jan De Nul is responsible for dredging, seabed preparation work, and the installation of foundations and wind turbines for the Finnish offshore wind project, owned and developed by Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy.

The EUR 120 million Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm will comprise 10 Siemens 4MW wind turbines and is slated for commissioning during the autumn of 2017.
