On 6 April, first inter-array cable was installed at the Galloper offshore wind farm in the UK, according to innogy UK.

The work is being carried out by VBMS with their cable laying vessel Stemat Spirit, which loaded the first batch of inter-array cables for the project at the end of March, around the same time GeoSea installed the final wind turbine foundation at the site.

The cables have been supplied by JDR , who were contracted by VBMS in 2015 to produce and deliver 56 subsea inter-array cables for the Galloper offshore wind farm.

The project will feature 56 Siemens 6MW wind turbines, whose installation is expected to begin shortly, since the foundation works were completed two months ahead of schedule. In 2015, Siemens signed a contract with Swire Blue Ocean for the provision of a wind turbine installation vessel.

The turbines are being pre-assembled at the purpose-built assembly base at Peel Ports, Great Yarmouth, where a 120m crane will lift the turbines onto vessels to sail them to the site. At the beginning of March, Siemens awarded 3sun Group the pre-assembly of 56 turbine towers at Great Yarmouth’s port.

The first wind turbine nacelle was completed on 28 March.

Innogy is leading the development and construction of the 336MW offshore wind farm on behalf of its partners, the UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital.
