Jan De Nul has contracted Seaproof Solutions to supply its export cable protection systems (CPS) for the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm and Trianel Windpark Borkum II.

The contract covers the design and supply of the export CPSs connecting Dong Energy’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm to the DolWin gamma platform; and the Trianel Windpark Borkum II wind farm to the DolWin alpha platform.

CPSs are taking into account all pertinent cable data, physical interface to the foundations and environmental parameters, whilst guaranteeing a minimum design life of 30 years, the company said.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 will have a total export capacity of 450MW, and will feature 56 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW wind turbines installed on 20 suction bucket jackets and 36 monopile foundations .

The wind farm is located 54km off the coast of Lower Saxony, next to Borkum Riffgrund 1, and is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2019.

DONG Energy has also recently contracted Seaproof Solutions to provide CPSs for the inter-array cables at the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One wind farm off te UK.

In March 2017, Seaproof Solutions won a contract to design and supply CPSs for the inter-array subsea cables at Trianel Windpark Borkum II.

The construction of TWB II is scheduled to start in early 2018 and the wind farm is expected be connected to the grid by the end of 2019.
