DONG Energy has signed a new contract with SeaRoc Group for the deployment of two SeaHub communication containers for its Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm construction phase.

SeaRoc Group has already provided a total of four SeaHub units to DONG Energy for the Race Bank and Walney Extension sites.

SeaHub is an unmanned containerised communications solution enabling voice and data communications and tracking of personnel, vessels, helicopters and equipment for offshore projects. The solution is particularly beneficial for far offshore projects such a Hornsea Project One which will be located 120 kilometers off the Yorkshire coast.

Housing all required equipment, including satellite, microwave or fibre backhaul capability, SeaHub facilitates all communications for offshore wind farms. Voice communications includes VHF marine and airband, TETRA and other communication technologies as may be required. Personnel tracking also includes man-overboard alerting.

The container also contains several autonomous safety systems including fire suppression and temperature control, all of which are monitored using SeaRoc Group’s marine management software system, SeaPlanner.

The SeaHub units for the Hornsea project will be delivered in Q4 2017.

The 1.2GW Hornsea Project One, when fully constructed off the UK’s Yorkshire coast, will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
