Following the installation of 20 out of 91 Siemens 6MW wind turbines at the 573MW Race Bank offshore wind farm, Grimsby has surpassed 1GW of offshore wind capacity operated from the town, according to local media.

A2SEA’s wind turbine installation vessel Sea Installer, together with DONG Energy and Siemens Wind Power, is currently installing the remaining 71 turbines out of the Port of Hull.

Sea Installer transported the first batch of turbine components and installed them some 17 miles off Blakeney Point in early May.

Race Bank is expected to be fully commissioned in 2018.

The first wind farm to be operated from Grimsby was the 194MW Lynn and Inner Dowsing, followed by the 270MW Lincs, the 219MW Humber Gateway, and the 210MW Westermost Rough. The wind farms have a combined capacity of 893MW.
