United Wind Logistics’ new special purpose vessel Vestvind arrived at the Port of Esbjerg today, 7 July, the port reported via social media.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind recently chartered the vessel for transportation of components for its V164-8.0 MW wind turbines. Vestvind’s next stop is Belfast where it will deliver components for the Walney Extension offshore wind farm, being built off Cumbria by DONG Energy.

The turbine supplier said that having 100% usage of the vessel has distinct implications for the company, as it fits the high requirements for efficiently transporting the V164 blades, nacelles and towers.

The Walney Extension wind farm will consist of 40 MHI Vestas 8MW and 47 Siemens 7MW wind turbines, scheduled to be commissioned in 2019. Walney Extension West, for which MHI Vestas is supplying the wind turbines, represents the first phase of the 660MW Walney Extension project.

The V164-8.0 MW turbines have been optimised for the project, utilising a power mode to be able to deliver a maximum output of 8.25MW.
