Discussing jacket foundations standardisation as a way of optimising production and cutting down the costs, Jorge López Novo, Navantia’s Commercial Manager, said that the foundation builders should be involved in offshore wind projects at an earlier stage, together with developers and designers.
Since some concerns were raised over local content after Iberdrola awarded Navantia with the East Anglia ONE contract, Offshore WIND wanted to know if the Spanish company outsources any work from the UK. Jorge López Novo explained the company was familiar with the local content requirements from day one as part of the negotiations with Iberdrola and that all the steel is procured through UK companies. Also, Navantia has already placed orders with UK suppliers for anodes and paint, with secondary steel procurement still in process.
Besides Iberdrola, the company has won contracts for Statoil’s Hywind project, for which it delivered floating foundations, and Nissum Bredning project, which will serve as a testbed for Siemens technology. For Siemens, Navantia-Windar joint venture will supply three-legged jacket foundations and accompanying piles.
