Clustering a few wind farms, especially those to be built far offshore, and optimising the utilisation of a hotel vessel (floatel) would significantly contribute to cost saving through the O&M phase, according to Dennis Schiricke, Director at OutSmart.
There are hotel vessels currently dedicated to a single offshore wind farm and during the commissioning phase they are fully utilised, however, experience shows that after a certain period the utilisation of such a vessel is not optimum, Schiricke told Offshore WIND during our Expertise Hub held at the beginning of June.
OutSmart and Deutsche Windtechnik – which acquired a 70% stake in OutSmart last year – have developed a full-service concept, which focuses on logistics optimisation as a key element for cost-saving potential.
