Marketex Offshore Constructions, an affiliated company of BLRT Grupp, has completed the production and delivery of 21 anchors for the wind turbine foundations to be installed at the 92.4MW Abderdeen Bay wind farm in Scotland.

The anchors were commissioned by the Belgium-based Smulders Projects, the company in charge of manufacturing eleven suction bucket jacket foundations for the project.

The Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), is being developed by Vattenfall to test and demonstrate innovative offshore wind technology.

The wind farm will feature eleven MHI Vestas 8.4MW wind turbines installed on the suction bucket jacket foundations and interconnected by 66kV array cables.

The international tender for the production and delivery of the anchors was held in autumn 2016 and the contract was concluded in December.

Each anchor has a diameter of 9.5 meters, height up to 15 meters and weight from 140 to 195 tons. Over 3,000 tons of products were manufactured and shipped within the project.

Boskalis, the Offshore Balance of Plant contractor, expects the jackets to be installed at the site some three kilometres off Aberdeen in January 2018.

The turbines are scheduled for installation in March 2018, while the wind farm is expected to generate its first electricity in summer 2018.
