Approximately 76 kilometres of subsea cable for the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm has arrived to the basis station of Mukran Port on Rugen island.

Between 9.4km and 23km long cables weighing between 510 and 580 tonnes will reach the port in five trains through to December 2017.

Via the new track 66, the cables will be shunted by the port railway Baltic Port Rail Mukran (BPRM) to the quay and stored there before being later transshipped by the lay barge.

The cables, manufactured in Nexans’ Hanover plant , are designed for operation at 33kV and will be used to connect the wind turbines to the substation.

Bladt is producing the transition pieces for the wind farm, which arrived to the Mukran Port mid-August, while the Rostock-based EEW SPC is delivering the monopiles.

The first monopile was installed at the end of August by Van Oord’s heavy lift installation vessel Svanen .

The Arkona wind farm, a joint venture between E.ON and Statoil, is located 35 kilometres north-east of the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea.

It will comprise 60 Siemens 6MW turbines, which A2SEA will start installing in 2018.

Arkona, also known as Arkona-Becken Südost, is scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

Operation and maintenance of the wind farm will also be handled entirely from the Mukran Port.
