Delegates from the Taiwan Power Company (TPC) have visited Specialist Marine Consultants at their head office in Hunmanby, UK, to discuss offshore wind as TPC wishes to accelerate their activities in the Taiwanese offshore wind market.

SMC Managing Director Ian Coates said: “The Taiwanese market is an area of great interest for SMC. As we look to expand our portfolio of work, we are open to engaging with emerging markets and the companies active within them.”

TPC currently holds a 100% stake in the consented Changhua pilot project, located off the coast of Changhua County, and have further interest in proposed projects throughout the region.

“TPC and their commitment to renewable energy and high standards of HSE and quality are extremely encouraging. We will continue to maintain a dialogue with TCP and thank them for taking the time to visit us here in the UK,” said Coates.

Recently, the Changhua County government and Denmak’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly promote and develop offshore wind industry in Taiwan’s most populous county.

The Taiwanese government plans to produce 4GW of offshore wind electricity by 2030.
