Michael Hannibal will join Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) as partner to take a lead role in the company’s investment activities within the offshore wind business starting from 21 December.
Hannibal recently left the position of Siemens Gamesa Offshore Business Unit’s CEO, which he held from 2011. He will be succeeded by Andreas Nauen, who starts with the position on 1 November.
“I am very pleased to welcome Michael Hannibal to the CIP partnership. Michael is one of the pioneers and leading figures within offshore wind and spearheaded Siemens’ and Siemens Gamesa’s development into the globally leading offshore wind turbine supplier and service provider,” Jakob Baruel Poulsen , CIP managing partner, said.
“In this capacity Michael will take a lead role on the investments in CIPs offshore wind farms in operations, construction, and development across three continents.”
The CIP-managed funds have invested in the 402MW Veja Mate offshore wind farm, 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm , and offshore wind development projects in the US, Canada and Taiwan, the company said.
Hannibal said: “The offshore wind industry is now expanding from a primarily Northwestern European business to a truly global business, and I am excited about the opportunity to be part of this journey together with the CIP team. I bring my hands-on offshore wind experience, gained by positioning Siemens Gamesa as the global leader in offshore wind.”
Michael Hannibal joined Siemens Gamesa (then Siemens Wind Power) in 2004, and after the Siemens Gamesa merger he was named CEO of the offshore division, having held the same position previously at Siemens Wind Power.
