GeoSea has signed an agreement with Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Ltd for the supply and installation of turbine and substation foundations, as well as the transport and installation of offshore substation platforms for the 950MW Moray East offshore wind farm off Scotland.

GeoSea will be responsible for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) of ca. 100 wind turbine foundations and three offshore substation foundations. In addition, GeoSea will transport and install the three OSS topsides at the site.

The contract award is subject to financial close which is expected to take place in the second half of 2018, DEME Group, GeoSea’s parent company, said.

Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Ltd is a joint venture company owned by EDP Renewables (77 %) and ENGIE (23 %). The project was recently awarded a GBP 57.50/MWh contract for Difference (CfD) by the UK Government.

“GeoSea has been involved from the very beginning of the project, back into 2012, whereby GeoSea and Moray East have been working on an in-depth understanding and rational distribution of risks, which clearly led to a reduced levelised cost of energy of the project. This close cooperation did lay a basis for the successful CfD award,” Jan Klaassen , Business Unit Manager Offshore Renewables of Geosea, said.

”Together with Ramboll, GeoSea has designed a jacket foundation concept integrating the challenges of the site, however optimised for fabrication and installation. The supply chain of approximately 100 steel jacket foundations and corresponding steel piles will be lined up the coming months. Moray East and GeoSea will pay high attention to maximise local (UK) content for the different types of services and suppliers, as far as reasonably possible.”

Moray East is one of three offshore wind projects to receive a CfD in the latest UK auction round and is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
