The first piles for the 714MW East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm have arrived at the BOW Terminal in the port of Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, and the Dutch BOW Terminal signed an agreement for foundations marshalling yard services in January, under which the terminal is in charge of providing up to 12-14ha of storage for the wind farm’s 102 jacket foundations and 306 pinpiles, as well as coordinating and executing all horizontal and vertical transport of the structures at its site.
In January, Navantia and Windar signed a definitive agreement with compatriot Iberdrola for the construction of 42 out of 102 foundations, and 126 piles for the wind farm. The majority of work is being executed at the Navantia facility in Fene, with Windar constructing the piles at its facilities in Avilés.
Navantia assembled the first of the 42 foundations in September.
The remaining 60 foundations and accompanying pinpiles will be produced by Lamprell at its Jebel Ali and Sharjah yards in the UAE. At the beginning of September, Lamprell awarded Dockwise with a contract to transport the jacket foundations from Jebel Ali to the Netherlands.
Seajacks and Van Oord will install the foundations, with the main installation vessel being Seajacks Scylla.
The foundations will support the Siemens 7MW turbines installed some 43km off the Suffolk coast in the UK.
Offshore construction at the wind farm’s site is due to start in 2018, with its full commissioning scheduled for 2020.
