U.S. offshore wind developer Vineyard Wind will host two open houses in Yarmouth and Barnstable to inform residents about the grid connection plans for the proposed wind farm to be built offshore Massachusetts.

The first open house will be held at the Barnstable Intermediate School cafeteria in Hyannis today, 7 November, from 5:00 to 8:00PM local time, while the second will be held tomorrow, 8 November, at Yarmouth Senior Center in West Yarmouth from 5:00 to 8:00PM local time.

According to the company, the Vineyard Wind Connector will deliver to the grid enough clean wind energy to power over 450,000 Massachusetts homes each year by placing buried transmission cables in some areas of Yarmouth and Barnstable.

Vineyard Wind is one of three companies that has acquired lease rights to build wind projects off the coast of Massachusetts.

The company has leased an area of about 160,000 acres some 14 miles from Martha’s Vineyard, where it hopes to build as much as 1,600MW of wind energy. Massachusetts plans to have 1,600MW of offshore wind energy online and operating by 2027.

Besides Vineyard Wind, Ørsted , former DONG Energy, and Deepwater Wind proposed to develop wind projects offshore Massachusetts.
