The 92.6 tonne transformer built for Vattenfall’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Center (EOWDC) is currently on its way to the installation site in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The transformer will convert the electricity from 66Kv to 132Kv, which will be transported from the Blackdog substation site to Dyce substation.

The unit is expected to reach the installation site by 4 January, according to Vattenfall’s latest construction progress report.

The 132kV building is nearing completion including the mechanical and electrical fit out, Vattenfall said, with preparations for the transformer delivery and offload currently ongoing.

J. Murphy & Sons is in charge of onshore works on the project.

With regards to cable installation works, the VBMS site has been established near the Blackdog fishing station and preparatory works have started for the export cable pull-in early in 2018, according to the report.

The cable pull-in operations and the installation of the 11 suction bucket foundations are scheduled to start in January 2018.

The 92.4MW EOWDC, also known as Aberdeen offshore wind farm, will comprise eleven MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbines scheduled for installation in March 2018.

The wind farm is expected to generate first power in summer 2018 and operate for 20 years.
