Ørsted has awarded Norway’s Imenco Corrosion Technology AS with a contract to deliver equipment for cathodic corrosion protection of the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One wind farm off the Yorkshire coast in the UK.

The wind farm comprises 174 wind turbines installed at the site some 120 kilometres offshore.

The scope of the contract covers the delivery of systems to connect sacrificial anodes to the turbine foundations and consist of Imenco’s Piranha® earthing connectors, cables and cable protectors.

Following Imenco’s first delivery of cathodic protection equipment for offshore wind projects in 2016, the company has been awarded contracts for delivery of similar solutions for eight European offshore wind power projects in the UK, Germany and Belgium.

Imenco has developed a series of solutions for connection of sacrificial anodes to various subsea structures. The solutions are all made to be installed without the use of divers and are all based on the same patented technology, the company said.

”Corrosion protection of offshore wind farms has become a major business area for us. This contract with Ørsted, awarded at the end of 2017 is the latest of a string of awards in the same business area throughout 2017. The contracts form a firm foundation for a continued development of our technology and organization in an exciting and growing business area,” Geir Egil Østebøvik , Imenco’s CEO, said.
