The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) in Taiwan has approved the Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) of a total of eight offshore wind projects, according to local media.

EPA approved three offshore wind projects proposed to be built off Changhua County by Macquarie Capital and Swancor Renewable. The three projects have a combined capacity of around 2GW and will comprise up to 228 turbines.

Germany’s EnBW agreed to acquire a 37.5 stake in each of the three projects, with the acquisition pending necessary approvals.

The next step for the partners is to secure grid connection capacity for the three projects, expected in the first half of 2018.

EPA also cleared one project proposed by the China Steel Corp (CSC), and, as reported earlier , Ørsted’s four offshore wind projects located off Changhua County with a combined capacity of 2.4GW.

Taiwan has set a goal of developing 5.5GW of offshore wind capacity by 2025.
