EEW OSB Marks Milestone with Hornsea One Transition Piece

EEW Offshore Structures (Britain) Ltd has produced its 100th transition piece, which is due to set sail to Ørsted’s Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

EEW Offshore Structures (Britain) Ltd has produced its 100th transition piece, which is due to set sail to Ørsted’s Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

EEW OSB expects to fully complete the transition piece on 19 June at its plant in Haverton Hill, UK, with the structure scheduled to leave for the wind farm on 29 August.

The company said the 100th transition piece represents a milestone since production started at the plant just over two and a half years ago.

Ray Taviner , Managing Director, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for us, EEW OSB to reach this milestone in such a short period of time, and we hope to continue in the future, building on the excellent work already achieved.”

EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC), EEW OSB’s parent company , won a contract to manufacture all monopiles for the 174-turbine wind farm in August last year.

EEW OSB is producing 86 transition pieces for the wind farm, while Bladt is manufacturing 68 and Steelwind Nordenham with Wilton Engineering 20 transition pieces.

Located 120km off the Yorkshire Coast in the UK, the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One will comprise 174 Siemens 7MW wind turbines, three offshore substations and a reactive compensation substation (RCS).

Once fully operational in 2020, it will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world.
