Siemens Gamesa’s Offshore CEO Andreas Nauen and Swancor’s Chairman Robert Tsai have signed two agreements in Taiwan: the first one focused on bringing additional local content to Taiwan’s offshore wind industry, followed by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Formosa II offshore wind project.
The first two operational offshore wind turbines in Taiwan , installed as the first phase of the Formosa I project, have been delivered by Siemens Gamesa. With Formosa I Phase II , on whose realisation Swancor is currently working, a further 120MW of capacity is planned to be added by 2019, subject to final investment decision.
The Formosa II project, which could have a capacity of around 500MW, is still in the early stages of development.
In December 2017, Siemens Gamesa opened its Asia Pacific office in Taipei and revealed a plan to set up a manufacturing and pre-assembly site at Taiwan’s Taichung port.
The agreements between Siemens Gamesa and Swancor were signed today, 27 March, the same day as MHI Vestas inked preferred supplier contracts with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and China Steel Corporation (CSC) for their Taiwanese projects.
