Vroon’s subsea-support walk-to-work (W2W) vessel VOS Stone has commenced operations at the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

VOS Stone is in charge of delivering offshore logistics support and W2W services at the offshore wind farm, initially supporting VBMS inter-array cabling activities.

From mid-summer, the vessel will provide similar services to E.ON, during commissioning operations at the Arkona wind farm.

VOS Stone is fitted with an Ampelmann A400 motion-compensated gangway system, a 50T active-heave-compensated crane and is able to accommodate 60 persons.

Featuring a covered warehouse on the main-deck level, the vessel can perform cargo handling and passenger transfers to and from offshore assets, such as wind turbines, offshore platforms or CTVs (crew-transfer vessels), as well as engage in subsea-support operations, Vroon said.

Vroon christened VOS Stone at a ceremony held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in December last year.

Located 35km northeast of the island of Rügen, the Arkona offshore wind farm will comprise 60 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2019.
