BOEM Calls New York Bight Meeting

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is holding the New York Bight Renewable Energy Intergovernmental Task Force on 9 May in Newark, New Jersey.

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is holding the New York Bight Renewable Energy Intergovernmental Task Force on 9 May in Newark, New Jersey.

The purpose of the event is to provide an update on BOEM’s commercial leasing process for the New York Bight, as well as present preliminary data and analysis that will inform the Area Identification (Area ID) process.

In addition, the meeting will provide states in the region an opportunity to update the Task Force on state initiatives and activities, BOEM said.

At the event, which will be held at the Best Western Plus Robert Treat Hotel, the members of the public will have an opportunity to listen and ask questions or give comments.

The BOEM New York Bight Renewable Energy Task Force is an intergovernmental group, with the Task Force members including Federal officials and elected state, local, and tribal officials, and/or designated member representatives.

The Task Force is comprised of both New York and New Jersey Renewable Energy Intergovernmental Task Forces. Two representatives from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, Virginia and Maryland will also be invited to participate.

The New York Bight region represents an area of shallow waters between Long Island to the north and east and the New Jersey coast to the south and west.

BOEM recently published a call to obtain nominations from companies interested in commercial offshore wind energy leases within the four proposed regions in the bight: Fairways North, Fairways South, Hudson North, and Hudson South.
