The 659MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2018, Ørsted, the developer of the wind farm off Cumbria, UK, said.
Once fully operational, Walney Extension will become the world’s largest operating offshore wind farm, pushing the 630MW London Array to the second place.
The wind farm comprises 40 MHI Vestas 8.25MW turbines and 47 Siemens Gamesa 7MW wind turbines, the last of which was installed earlier this week.
The commissioning works on the wind farm’s 87 turbines and two substations are ongoing.
The wind farm is owned by Ørsted (50%) and the two Danish pension funds – PFA (25%) and PKA (25%).
