German Maritime Search and Rescue Association (DGzRS) responded to a report of a fire onboard a crew transfer vessel near the Nordergründe offshore wind farm on Monday, 30 April.

According to DGzRS, the fire started in one of the engine rooms of an Offshore Taxi vessel.

The engine room had been sealed off and the fire put out by the three crew members onboard by the time the first responders arrived. A police helicopter was also called in to assist with the rescue efforts.

At the time of the accident, the vessel was located some five nautical miles north of the Mellum Island in the mouth of the river Wesser.

Once inspected, the 24-metre catamaran was cleared to return to its home port of Cuxhaven under its own power.

No one was injured in the accident, DGzRS said. The cause of the fire is unknown.
