On 11 May, China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has placed an order with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for a jack-up vessel with a lifting capacity of 1,300 tonnes that will be deployed on the construction of offshore wind farms.

China Railway’s jack-up, featuring a DP2 dynamic positioning system, has a total length of 105 meters and measures 42 meters in width, and is capable of working in water depths of up to 50 meters.

COSCO will build the vessel at its shipyard in Qidong, where the company has already built several offshore wind installation vessels.

Among the latest work that the COSCO Group won in the offshore wind sector is building DEME’s Orion , a next-generation offshore installation vessel with a 5,000-tonne crane that will be operated by DEME’s daughter company GeoSea. The keel-laying ceremony for the vessel took place in March 2018 and the vessel is set to be delivered in 2019.
