EnBW will start the construction works on its 112MW Albatros offshore wind farm in Germany in September, according to information in the company’s financial results for the first quarter of 2018.
The Germany-based developer is carrying out the development of the Hohe See and Albatros offshore wind farms as a joint project, and announced the start of construction for both wind farms in April , when the foundation installation kicked off at Hohe See.
For the Albatros project, Siemens Gamesa is the general contractor for the turbines, foundations and transformer station, with Belgian company GeoSea (DEME Group) appointed as the subcontractor responsible for the foundations and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier contracted to transport and install the project’s 16 wind turbines.
According to EnBW, Hohe See and Albatros together represent the largest offshore wind project currently being built in Germany.
The wind farms will have a total capacity of 609MW and 87 wind turbines, with the two offshore sites to see more than 500 employees and 40 ships working during construction peak times.
The installation of Siemens Gamesa 7MW wind turbines and the transformer station are scheduled to start next year, and both wind farms are due to be put into operation by the end of 2019.
