Nexans has completed all export cable installation and burial works at the Beatrice site, where Siemens Transmission and Distribution team has started commissioning works on the recently installed second Offshore Transformer Module (OTM) in preparation for the energisation of the system.
The Norwegian cable manufacturer delivered the last section of Beatrice export cable in April and completed the installation works at the Scottish offshore wind farm site in mid-May, using its cable laying vessel Skaggerak.
The two Beatrice export cables run 70km along the seabed to a landfall point to the west of Portgordon on the Moray coast, where a transition joint bay then connects them to the onshore cable system.
Nexans has also performed routing, jointing and termination works on the export cables, which have been pulled in to the OTMs.
Now both OTMs are undergoing commissioning works, shortly after OTM2 has been installed . The first module was put in place in February and Siemens team started commissioning it in March .
The jack-up vessels Seajacks Hydra and Seajacks Kraken are connected to the OTMs, whereas Hydra is providing accommodation facilities for OTM1 commissioning and Kraken is doing the same at OTM2. The walk-to-work vessel Island Crown is on site as the support and accommodation vessel for works on both OTMs.
Meawhile, the cable laying vessel Siem Aimery has completed the second campaign of inter-array cable installation and will return to site around 19 May to commence the third campaign.
