North Highland Initiative has posted a photo of a batch of Beatrice wind turbine towers lined up and the Ro-Ro vessel Rotra Mare anchored alongside the Nigg Energy Park site, where Siemens Gamesa has set up its pre-assembly area for the project.
According to previous reports on the 588MW project, first wind turbines are scheduled to be installed this summer.
Siemens Gamesa inked a deal with Global Energy Group to use the Nigg Energy Park fabrication yard on the Cromarty Firth in June 2016, shortly after signing a contract to supply, install and commission 84 of its 7MW wind turbines for the offshore wind farm, located some 14 kilometres off the Scottish coast.
At the beginning of May 2018, the turbine supplier hired Scottish company Windhoist Limited, which was working only on onshore projects until that point, to carry out wind turbine pre-assembly for the Beatrice offshore wind farm, with the works starting the same month.
So far, 55 of the total of 86 jacket foundations (84 wind turbines and two Offshore Transmission Modules) have been installed at the Beatrice site, according to BOWL’s Notice to Mariners for the week starting on 14 May.
Furthermore, all export cable works have been completed , the two Siemens Offshore Transmission Modules (OTMs) are now undergoing commissioning, and the third inter-array cabling campaign has started.
The Beatrice project is due for commissioning in 2019.
