Hohe See OSS Jacket Hits High Seas

Smulders sent off the jacket foundation for the EnBW Hohe See offshore substation (OSS) from its yard in Vlissingen on 29 May and the structure is now travelling to the German project site in the North Sea, where it will be installed on 31 May or 1 June.

Smulders sent off the jacket foundation for the EnBW Hohe See offshore substation (OSS) from its yard in Vlissingen on 29 May and the structure is now travelling to the German project site in the North Sea, where it will be installed on 31 May or 1 June.

ENGIE Fabricom, Smulders (Iemants) and CG have been hired to design, build and install the offshore substation, which will connect the 497MW EnBW Hohe See wind farm to the German high voltage grid via the BorWin3 converter platform.

Under the contract, ENGIE Fabricom is in charge of the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the offshore substation, with Smulders delivering the steel structures for both the topside and jacket foundation, including the accompanying piles, and CG providing the HV/MV equipment and control & protection system.

The Hohe See offshore wind farm is located around 95 kilometres north of Borkum and around 100 kilometres north-west of Helgoland. It will comprise 71 Siemens Gamesa 7MW offshore wind turbines, for which the monopile foundations are now being installed .

The foundations, offshore substation and the wind farm’s cables are expected to be in place by the end of 2018.

EnBW is constructing the Hohe See and Albatros wind farms as one 609MW joint project, with construction works on Albatros scheduled to start in September 2018 and both projects due to be connected to the grid in 2019.
