The Netherlands-based wind power consultancy and engineering company IX Wind (Independent eXperts) has opened an office in Taipei, Taiwan, to serve the local wind market.
IX Wind said that the launch of the new office represents the company’s full commitment to the future of Taiwan as a hub for offshore wind, with the aim of being closer to clients in Asia since it expected to be more convenient for Japanese and Chinese relations.
The company’s Asian team will be built and coordinated by Paris Tzou, originally from Taipei.
IX Wind’s experiences in Taiwan date back from 2012, when several team members started working as technical advisors on the first and only operating Taiwanese offshore wind farm – the 8MW Formosa 1.
The second phase of the wind farm is expected to be constructed in 2019 and will add 20 offshore wind turbines with a combined capacity of 120MW.
Recently, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) awarded a total of 3,836MW of grid connection capacity to eleven offshore wind farms proposed by seven developers under the first process of its kind in Taiwan.
