Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, has been appointed Chair of the Carbon Trust from July 2018.
She will take on the role from James Smith, former Chair of Shell UK, who has served in the post since 2011.
In addition to her role at the Carbon Trust, Baroness Brown serves as Deputy Chair of the Committee on Climate Change, the independent, statutory body that advises the UK government and devolved administrations on climate change, chairing its Adaptation Sub-Committee. She also acts as the UK’s Low Carbon Business Ambassador.
Baroness Brown is Chair of the Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials, a Non-Executive Director of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and a Council member of Innovate UK. She sits in the House of Lords as a crossbench peer, where she is a member of the European Union Select Committee. She is a Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.
“Since it was established in 2001, the Carbon Trust has been a key player in global efforts to build a low carbon economy, establishing itself as a trusted global brand,” Baroness Brown said.

There is still much more work to be done if we are to deal with the most pressing environmental challenge facing the world.
