M.C. Construction (Cleveland) has completed the fabrication and mobilisation of steelwork for MPI Adventure ahead of the vessel’s upcoming works on the removal, upgrade and re-installation of turbine blades at the London Array offshore wind farm.
Over the last three months, the company fabricated blade rack grillages, an elevated mezzanine deck, built in 3 No sections and cantilevering at either side of the vessel, 4 No Tugger Winch / Access structures, 3 No Portable Habitat units and carried out mobilisation of third party equipment.
In April 2018, Siemens Gamesa informed that it had commenced a blade repair and upgrade campaign at the Anholt offshore wind farm, with London Array next in line for the works.
Both wind farms comprise Siemens Gamesa’s 3.6MW wind turbines that have been affected by leading edge erosion . The turbine manufacturer said that during the campaigns it will dismantle the blades, apply a protective shell and install an aerodynamic improvement kit to increase the yield.
The two specific agreements for Anholt and London Array are based on earlier agreed guiding principles on a portfolio basis.
Also in April, James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) signed a contract with London Array to deliver Balance of Plant (BoP) Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services covering the wind farm’s next five years of operation. JFMS will be responsible for BoP inspection and maintenance services on London Array’s 175 turbines, its meteorological mast and statutory inspections on two offshore substations.
