3sun Group has secured a contract to service the construction phase of the East Anglia One offshore wind farm from the project’s new base in Lowestoft harbor, UK.
Under the 28-month contract, 3sun will be in charge of a variety of onshore and offshore services, including labor, from office-based administrators and security staff to offshore technicians, and will provide materials and equipment ranging from forklifts to vessels, as well as warehousing, scaffolding, onshore fabrication and lifting.
The Great Yarmouth-based company will also carry out health and safety training, including Global Wind Organisation training, confined space working, rescue drills and onshore emergency drills, and will provide and maintain all personal protection equipment, as well as manage and dispose of onshore and offshore waste.
“This is one of the biggest single site contracts we have ever had. It will draw on our local knowledge and experience of the offshore renewables industry – using our pool of technicians, but will also create up to another 30 jobs from office workers to technicians,” Graham Hacon , Chief Executive Officer at 3sun, said.
“We know it was a very competitive tendering process and, after months of work towards the bid, 3sun is delighted to have been chosen as part of the 50pc of UK content for the project.”
3sun is leading the project’s employer engagement, with the workforce expected to include candidates from the new East of England Offshore Wind Skills Centre .
ScottishPower Renewables, the owner of East Anglia One, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the wind farm’s operations and maintenance (O&M) base at the Port of Lowestoft.
The 714MW offshore wind farm will consist of 102 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines located approximately 43km off the Suffolk Coast. The project is expected to be fully operational in 2020.
