BigLift’s cargo ship Happy Star has transported the last ten transition pieces for the Deutsche Bucht (DeBu) offshore wind farm from the Spanish Port of Avilés to the Port of Cuxhaven in Germany.

The transition pieces were manufactured by a joint venture established by two Daniel Alonso Group companies, Windar Renovables and Idesa, in their fabrication yards in Avilés.

Happy Star brought the first eleven transition pieces for the 269MW project to Cuxhaven in mid-July. Once offshore construction begins, Van Oord’s installation vessel will pick them up and install them at the offshore site some 95km north-west of the island of Borkum.

Van Oord is the Balance of Plant (BoP) contractor for the project, and is in charge of the design, engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the foundations, inter-array cables and offshore substation, as well as the transportation of turbines.

DeBu will comprise 33 MHI Vestas V164-8.0MW turbines , optimized to be able to reach an output of 8.4MW, including the two turbines installed on mono bucket foundations .

The project will be the first offshore wind farm worldwide to test this new type of foundation structure under commercial operating conditions. It is scheduled to be fully operational late next year.
