EMS Maritime Offshore (EMO) has secured more work for the Nordsee One offshore wind farm in Germany, with the crew transfer vessel (CTV) Windea Four obtaining a charter extension and the recently-christened Windea Six beginning its first deployment.

EMO signed a charter extension for Windea Four, which has been transporting service technicians and freight to the offshore wind project 40km to the north of the island of Juist since 2016 and will continue the activities until 2026.

Windea Six will be used for the transfer of mechanics for maintenance work during the operational phase of the 332MW wind farm, as part of a contract that EMO signed with Senvion in November 2017.

Built by Strategic Marine, the new 26-meter long CTV was recently christened in Leer and will immediately go into service for a period of at least three years.

“Our specialist vessels have proven themselves since they are suited to the particular conditions of the operational area in the southern North Sea and meet the requirements of our client,” said Knut Gerdes , Managing Director of EMO.

“An order like this is not a foregone conclusion, so we are particularly delighted about the additional contract and also about the extension of the contract for the ‘Windea Four.”

Windea Four and Six are equipped with a waterjet propulsion system and can achieve a maximum speed of 28kn. The two StratCat vessels can transport up to 24 passengers and 30t of freight.

The Nordsee One offshore wind farm comprises 54 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines which started commercial operation at the end of last year.

The developer of the project is Nordsee One GmbH, a special purpose company owned by Northland Power Inc. (85%) and innogy SE (15%).
