J.R. Rix & Sons has agreed to acquire Boston Energy’s 50% stake in their joint venture company BostonRix Wind Ltd, therefore obtaining sole ownership of the business.

Once the agreement is completed on 1 October, BostonRix Wind will be rebranded to Rix Renewables and will continue providing marine and balance of plant services, wind turbine maintenance and OFTO assets inspection.

Boston Energy said that it had decided to relinquish its shares in the joint venture as its strategic goals were no longer aligned. However, the two companies will keep working together and Boston Energy will continue supplying technicians and engineers for ongoing and future contracts.

The current general manager of BostonRix Wind, Steve Danson, will be in charge of the day-to-day management of the business.

According to J.R. Rix & Sons Director James Doyle, the Hull-based company will now be able to offer a range of services that so far wind farm operators could only get by employing a number of different suppliers.

“The launch of Rix Renewables is a very exciting opportunity because it enables us to significantly extend our services to the renewable industry and invest independently in the sector,” said Doyle .

“We are already an established player in the industry through Rix Sea Shuttle, our crew transfer business, so we can leverage a lot of those relationships to grow the new company.”

The two parties formed BostonRix Wind in April 2016. The company focuses on providing a range of integrated services to offshore wind operators and developers and OEMs.
