SeaTwirl has elected former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind Jens Tommerup as the new member of its board of directors.

The appointment was announced at an extra general meeting held on Tuesday, 11 September.

Tommerup will be working side to side with Roger Cederberg, the Chairman, Daniel Ehrnberg, Inventor and Founder, as well as Charlotte Bergqvist, Pontus Ryd and Peter Laurits.

“I have followed SeaTwirl’s development for some time and am now looking forward to be part of the journey towards an established product,” said Tommerup .

“There has been a lot of talk about floating wind power for many years. Many solutions have been proposed and, in some cases, built as full-scale prototypes. What is now clear is that floating wind power will become a very big market. SeaTwirl is an interesting construction with bright prospects for success.”

Tommerup held the position of MHI Vestas CEO since the company’s establishment in 2014 until April 2018. He previously worked as Head of Vestas China and Head of the merged Vestas business area Asia/Pacific and China.

The Swedish company is the developer of a floating vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) with a tower placed on an underwater structure, which consists of a buoyancy component and a keel at its lowest point.

A 30kW SeaTwirl S1 prototype turbine was launched and installed at the Lysekil test site in Sweden in 2015. The company is now in the process of developing a full-scale unit – SeaTwirl S2 – a 1MW turbine planned to be completed by 2020.
