SeaTwirl has signed a deal with the Norwegian Haugaland Kraft for selling electricity from the SeaTwirl S2 turbine due to be installed in 2020.

In case the site near Haugesund in Norway is chosen for the installation of SeaTwirl S2, Haugaland Kraft will purchase the electricity produced by the turbine.

According to the Swedish wind power company, several sites are being evaluated, but Haugesund is one of the main alternatives as it is well-suited for accommodating the 1MW full-scale unit.

“SeaTwirl S2 is the full-scale unit with a turbine effect of 1 MW that we are developing and that we are planning to install in the sea in 2020. Through this power deal with Haugaland Kraft, we’re taken another step towards realizing that plan,” said SeaTwirl’s CEO Gabriel Strängberg .

SeaTwirl is a floating vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) with a tower placed on an underwater structure, which consists of a buoyancy component and a keel at its lowest point.

The company launched and installed the 30kW S1 prototype at the Lysekil test site in Sweden in 2015.
