Mingyang Delivers First Turbine for Guangdong Offshore Wind Project

China’s Mingyang Wind Power has delivered the first MySE5.5/7.0MW semi-direct drive wind turbine platform to be installed on a commercial offshore wind project in Guangdong Province.

China’s Mingyang Wind Power has delivered the first MySE5.5/7.0MW semi-direct drive wind turbine platform to be installed on a commercial offshore wind project in Guangdong Province.

The turbine is the first of the 36 Mingyang units to be installed on the 200MW Guangdong Yudean Zhanjiang Wailuo wind farm.

The Wailuo project is the first in the Province to feature wind turbines with an individual rated capacity higher than 5MW, Mingyang said. The turbine installation at the site is expected to start by the end of this year.

The wind farm is owned and developed by Guangdong Yudean Group and its subsidiaries. The project’s main EPC contractor is Guangdong Electric Power Design & Research Institute.

This is the first domestic offshore wind project to be built with the general EPC contracting method and the first one in Guangdong Province to use large-diameter monopile foundations.

The MySE5.5/7.0MW platform is adapted to China’s specific sea and wind conditions, Mingyang said. Two units have earlier this year been installed on the 79.4MW Fujian Xinghua Gulf (Fuqing Xinghua Bay) demo wind farm.

The two turbines were connected to the grid in June and August respectively, and they have obtained the CGC type certification. Since the grid-connected power generation, the total power generation has reached 13.53 million kWh. According to the data gathered for the period from 1 to 30 October, the power generation of the two units recorded a new high, reaching 4.58 million kWh, and the utilization rate of 99.9%, Mingyang said.
