Virginia Offshore Wind Project Brings Subsea 7 to the US

Ørsted North America has awarded Seaway Offshore Cables (SOC) with a contract for the supply and installation of inter-array cables at the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in the U.S.

Ørsted North America has awarded Seaway Offshore Cables (SOC) with a contract for the supply and installation of inter-array cables at the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in the U.S.

Under the contract, a joint project team of SOC and Subsea 7 will be operating out of the Gulf of Mexico to perform the turnkey cable supply and installation for the project.

In addition, SOC will provide associated materials and services, including the supply of submarine composite cables, cable protection systems and related accessories, as well as post-installation termination, trenching and testing services.

The company will be using partly locally available vessels and resources, as well as those with the Subsea 7 group.

Project engineering works will commence immediately, with installation activities scheduled for execution in 2020.

According to SOC, the contract marks the company’s first offshore wind project in the U.S.

“Securing this contract has generated great pride within our entire SOC and Subsea 7 project team. This is a significant achievement that marks our continued growth in what we recognise is a crucial market for the world’s future energy needs,” said Senior Vice President of Renewables and Heavy Lifting, Steph McNeill .

“We look forward to start of the project and welcome the opportunity to continue a successful relationship with Ørsted Wind Power.”

CVOW will feature two Siemens Gamesa 6MW wind turbines to be located some 43km off the U.S. east coast. The project is scheduled to begin operating in December 2020.
