Forty wind turbines have been installed at the Beatrice offshore wind farm and the project is now two turbines away from reaching a halfway mark.
So far, 35 of the installed Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines have been commissioned.
The first turbine was installed at the site in July and the first power was delivered to the Scottish grid a few days later.
Siemens Transmission and Distribution is carrying out limited commissioning works on both Offshore Transformer Modules (OTMs) throughout the winter 2018/19, with the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited’s (BOWL) electrical commission teams continuing energisation and switching operations on both OTM1 and OTM2.
The jack-up vessel Pacific Orca is installing the project’s 84 wind turbines, while the commissioning works are being undertaken by using the walk-to-work vessel Island Crown and crew transfer vessels (CTVs) Seacat Resolute and Fob Swath 3.
Siemens Gamesa has taken over operational control of the scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting of several wind turbines, following the transfer of custody from project construction to operations and maintenance (O&M). For these operations, the company has engaged the CTV Seacat Mischief and an Airbus Helicopter H145 aircraft operated by the German company Wiking Helikopter Service.
The 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm is owned and developed by BOWL, a joint venture partnership between SSE, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and Red Rock Power Ltd.
