Boskalis and German SPIE SAG Group have entered an agreement under which Boskalis will acquire the offshore cable installation activities and assets of Bohlen Doyen.

The scope of the transaction, expected to be closed in the first quarter 2019 (subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions), includes the acquisition of three large cable laying barges, burial tools and other equipment, personnel, as well as several smaller commercial and maintenance contracts.

The cable laying barges have capacities ranging from 800 to 4,000 metric tons and, according to Boskalis, their technical specifications make them ideally suited for the installation of export cables in sheltered water and the rapidly growing cable repair market.

Bohlen Doyen’s cable laying vessels include BoDo Installer , BoDo Constructor and BoDo Connector .

The company’s offshore cable laying business operations comprise grid to grid and offshore substation to shore connections, which includes the installation of offshore cables and connection of offshore wind farms to substations.

Bohlen Doyen carried out cable installation on BorWin 3, DolWin 3 and NordLink, and was involved in the first phase of the Ostwind project for 50Hertz as a subcontractor to Prysmian.

Given that Boskalis was awarded a contract for Ostwind 2 in November , the company now stated that its newly acquired business is well-positioned to execute the nearshore activities on the project.
