Ørsted US Offshore Wind has received approval from Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority for a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for its Revolution Wind offshore wind farm.
With the PPA consent, the power from the 200MW project will be delivered to the state’s utilities Eversource and United Illuminating.
According to Ørsted, now that the power contract is finalized the development of the offshore wind project will be accelerated.
Offshore oceanographic and geophysical survey work already began this year, while offshore installation work will start in 2022 and full operation is expected the year later.
“Connecticut is now an important player in America’s offshore wind industry,” said Jeffrey Grybowski , Co-CEO of Ørsted US Offshore Wind.
“We’re proud to be building the state’s first offshore wind farm. We’re ready to make major investments in our local workforce and in the Port of New London to ramp up this project.”
The State of Connecticut selected the 200MW offshore wind project in June in the state’s first procurement for offshore wind energy.
Ørsted US Offshore Wind, which recently acquired Deepwater Wind, committed to investing at least USD 15 million in the Port of New London to allow aspects of Revolution Wind to be constructed.
The company said it plans to open a development office in New London and contract a Connecticut-based boat builder to construct one for the crew transfer vessels (CTVs) for the project.
