Innogy has distributed GBP 1.4 million in Wales in 2018 through community funding from its renewable energy projects.
In Wales, innogy operates the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm, the Brechfa Forest West Wind Farm, has seven hydropower stations, and is constructing the Mynydd y Gwair and Clocaenog Forest Onshore Wind Farms.
According to Katy Woodington, innogy’s Senior Community Investment Officer, the community fund associated with Gwynt y Môr will alone deliver more than GBP 19 million over its lifetime.
“We are investing a significant amount of money into communities neighbouring our renewable energy projects,” said Woodington .
“We are immensely proud that our community funds are helping countless local projects to provide crucial services and others to get off the ground.”
Besides the green credentials, innogy said its portfolio is providing long-term, flexible funding directly into many local communities, for up to 25 years.
The community funding comes from the private sector, and is thus often match funded, Woodington stated.
