The Denmark-headquartered PcP. has provided louvre gratings for the offshore substation of the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm in Germany.

According to PcP., the seawater resistant gratings will provide protection and ventilation for vulnerable transformer chambers of the substation.

The protection was necessary due to extreme conditions, such as high winds and often heavy rains, the company said.

“This is another successful project with aluminum louvre gratings for offshore substations,” said Cedric Charon , Key Account Manager at PcP. Belgium.

“Our relations to the client are excellent, and we are currently developing a product to be tested for water-tightness-percentage and high winds up to 100 km/h.”

Smulder rolled out the substation topside for Deutsche Bucht at the yard of Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen in October 2018.

Offshore installation is planned in the first half of this year, when the topside will be installed on top of the 60m high jacket foundation, also built by Smulders.

The Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm will comprise 33 MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbines installed on 31 monopile foundations and two mono bucket foundations .

The Canadian Northland Power, who is developing the project some 95km off the Borkum Island, plans to have the 269MW wind farm commissioned in the second half of 2019.
