The Ireland-based Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions (GDG) has won a contract by PGE Energia Odnawialna to provide geotechnical consultancy for the Baltica II and III offshore wind projects in Poland.

GDG’s scope of work includes the analysis of geophysical data, management of the survey campaigns, integrating geotechnical and geophysical data, and developing a ground model for use in design.

In addition, the Irish company also has an option to undertake foundation concept design studies as the ground model is developed.

“Both companies have a shared objective to deliver the highest quality technical output and develop an accurate and reliable ground model for the site,” said Managing Director of GDG, Paul Doherty .

“The work that we are doing with PGE will assist in derisking the project and accelerating the wind farm development process.”

Baltica II and III are planned to be developed in two phases, with the first phase including the development of 1,500MW of offshore wind capacity and the second including 1,045MW.

The project site is located some 25-30km offshore the city of Łeba in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea.

Recently, GDG secured a contract to investigate sediment dynamic processes in the Irish Sea and their impact on planned offshore wind farm developments.

The project includes a morphodynamic study of designated areas in the Irish Sea and predictive sediment transport modeling that will be used to characterize future seabed changes and to quantify the risk for future offshore wind developments.
