The Jiangsu Province in China has approved 24 offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 6.7GW.

The total investment in the projects will amount to CNY 122.29 billion, which is approximately USD 18 billion, the provincial authorities stated.

According to the government-supported Xinhua Daily news site, the announcement is part of the province’s 10GW offshore wind plan known as Three Gorges on Sea.

The approved offshore wind farms are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Recently, BloombergNEF (BNEF) issued a report which writes that in 2018 China was the main contributor to the global increase in offshore wind investment.

Namely, offshore wind attracted USD 25.7 billion of clean energy investment last year, a 14% increase compared to 2017, with the numbers largely attributed to 13 Chinese offshore wind projects beginning construction for a total of some USD 11.4 billion.

To remind, the country’s farthest offshore wind farm, the 302.4MW Dafeng H3, reached full capacity in December 2018, after the last of the 72 Envision 4.2MW turbines was connected to the grid.
