Thirteen potential partners have responded to PGE Group’s invitation to develop offshore wind farm projects in the Polish Baltic Sea, Poland’s state-owned power company said.

PGE intends to sell up to a 50% stake in two special purpose vehicles that are preparing the offshore projects with a combined capacity of up to 2,545MW, and to operate them with the partner on a joint venture basis.

PGE has now completed the first stage of selection of potential strategic partners willing to participate in the preparation, construction, and operation of the offshore projects.

The group has not revealed the names of the potential partners who responded to the invitation.

However, Henryk Baranowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, said that the call attracted ”many stable partners, among which were also the largest market players, having thousands of megawatts realized in this technology.”

The first stage of PGE’s offshore programme encompasses the construction of 1,500MW within an area covered by a concession held by Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-2, and 1,045 MW within an area controlled by Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-3, located approximately 25-30km from the coastal city of Łeba.

The first power is expected in 2025, with the full commissioning slated for 2026, PGE said.

The planned projects are currently at the stage where the requisite environmental permits are being secured, wind conditions are being surveyed and works on power offtake and other technical activities are underway, PGE said. Preparations for preliminary geological surveys are also in progress.
