All of Norther wind farm’s 44 turbines are expected to be installed in the Belgian North Sea by late April, Van Oord, the project’s Balance of Plant contractor, said.
Van Oord’s installation vessel Aeolus started installing the first batch of MHI Vestas 8.4MW wind turbines at the site some 23 kilometres offshore Zeebrugge over the last weekend.
The Aeolus is transporting the turbines from the pre-assembly site in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, in sets of four.
The 370MW Norther offshore wind farm is expected to be commissioned in the summer of 2019 when it will become the largest offshore wind farm in Belgian waters. It is also the first Belgian wind farm to feature wind turbines with 8MW+ individual capacity.
